** SOLD OUT **
With seven studio albums, more than 100 festivals, performances in Taiwan, Mexico and a show for international peacekeeping troops in Mali under their floral-patterned belts, Five Alarm Funk has scooped up two Juno Award nominations for their tight and epic grooves.
The band’s latest release, Big Smoke, features 11 fine-tuned tracks and two collaborations with funk legends Bootsy Collins and Leo Pellegrino of Too Many Zooz.
“Big Smoke is the tightest, funkiest and most energized album we’ve ever created,” says drummer, vocalist and band leader Tayo Branston. “It’s the culmination of 17 years of creating, recording and performing together. We call it Punk Funk–it’s got the punch of heavy-hitting dance music with the energy of a ruckus live concert.” And that live performance is where the funk truly shines. Drenched in sweat and using their wild costumes to break down the barrier between audience and band, Five Alarm Funk has created a community with their infectious energy.
At their 30th annual ROOTSandBLUES performance, Five Alarm Funk’s positive vibes radiated through the crowd as beach balls bumped through the air and generations of families danced together.
” What an incredible night,” Branston says of Five Alarm Funk’s ROOTSandBLUES performance. “The crowd was electric, the band played great, and the energy was unstoppable.”
